Laser tag is fast, energetic and competitive. It may look like a game of simply running around and firing at anything that moves, but the highest-scoring players usually rely on strategy rather than speed alone.
A strong game is built around movement, awareness, patience and accurate shooting. Use these tactics during your next Laser Blast session and you may find your name climbing towards the top of the scoreboard.
Learn the Arena
Take note of the layout as soon as the game begins. Identify corners, barriers, raised areas and open spaces where you could easily become a target.
Knowing the arena helps you move confidently and avoid getting trapped. It also allows you to predict where opponents are likely to appear.
Do not stay in one place for the entire game, but avoid running into unfamiliar areas without checking what is ahead.
Use Cover Properly
Cover is one of your most valuable tools. Walls and obstacles can make it harder for opponents to hit your sensors while giving you an opportunity to prepare your next shot.
Position yourself close enough to cover that you can move behind it quickly. Briefly step out, take an accurate shot and return before your opponent has time to respond.
Remember that hiding for the entire game will limit your scoring opportunities. Cover should help you attack safely, not remove you from the action.
Keep Moving
Players who remain stationary are easier to target. Move between positions and change direction so that opponents cannot predict where you will appear next.
However, movement should be controlled. Sprinting through the arena without looking around can lead you directly into an opponent’s line of fire.
Stay alert, move with purpose and pause briefly when you need to take a more accurate shot.
Aim Before You Fire
Repeatedly pressing the trigger may feel exciting, but accurate shots are more valuable than random ones.
Take an extra moment to aim at an opponent’s active sensors. Keep the blaster steady and fire when you have a clear opportunity.
If an opponent is far away or mostly hidden, reposition yourself instead of wasting time on a difficult shot.
Watch Your Corners
Many players become so focused on the person in front of them that they forget to check the rest of the arena.
Look around regularly and listen for movement nearby. Opponents may approach from the side or wait behind an obstacle until you pass.
When turning a corner, avoid rushing through the centre of the opening. Approach carefully and be prepared to move back into cover.
Work with Your Team
During team-based games, communication can make a major difference. Tell teammates where opponents are positioned and avoid crowding into the same hiding place.
Some players can defend an area while others move forward. Working together makes it easier to surround opponents and control important sections of the arena.
Stay Calm and Enjoy the Game
When you are tagged, do not panic or immediately rush after the player who hit you. Reset, check your surroundings and choose your next move.
The best laser tag players remain calm even when the game becomes intense. They look for opportunities, choose their shots carefully and adapt their strategy.
